The Tilta Nucleus-M is a wireless FIZ system engineered for crews who need precise, reliable lens control across narrative, commercial, documentary, and live production. Its 3-channel architecture lets teams assign focus, iris, and zoom to the FIZ hand unit or split functions between the left/right wireless handgrips, adapting instantly to single-op or multi-op workflows. With a wireless range up to 1,000ft, it stays stable for steadicam, gimbal, vehicle, and studio builds, keeping pulls accurate even when the camera goes mobile.
Each Nucleus-M motor features an integrated receiver/MDR, eliminating external motor drivers for faster rigging and reduced clutter. The brushless drive supplies up to 2.5N·m torque (14.8V) and includes the cine-standard 0.8 mod, 35-tooth, 32-pitch gear, making it ready for most cinema lenses and adaptable to stills glass with included gear rings. Motors mount directly to 19mm rods or 15mm with bushings and offer auto and manual calibration to accommodate lenses with or without hard stops.
Powering the system is straightforward: feed 7.2–24V to any motor via P‑Tap, then daisy-chain power and control to additional motors through short 7‑pin cables. This single-cable approach speeds setup, keeps rigs tidy, and allows compact builds on gimbals, shoulder rigs, and cranes without sacrificing reliability. For camera control, compatible run/stop cables enable REC trigger directly from the FIZ unit or handgrips, integrating smoothly with common camera bodies.
The FIZ hand unit provides tactile, precise response with adjustable throw options, marking discs, A–B limits, vibration cues, and clear status readouts for rapid, repeatable pulls. The wireless handgrips add fingertip control on-shoulder or on gimbals, mounting via ARRI rosettes and common gimbal bars. Both the FIZ unit and handgrips run on two 18650 cells, targeting robust runtime (commonly up to a shoot day depending on use) and easy hot-swaps with compact chargers.
Operationally, Nucleus-M shines on fast sets. Auto-cal quickly sets lens limits; manual cal accommodates fly-by-wire or lenses without stops. A–B points with haptic feedback help nail repeatable racks, and split-channel control lets operators hand off iris or zoom while focus remains on the 1st AC, minimizing miscommunication. The system’s channelized RF and robust link management maintain control in busy environments, sustaining confidence during resets and complicated blocking.
As a camera rental partner, Unicorn Films supplies the Nucleus-M as a production-ready FIZ package. Kits are curated with FIZ hand unit, L/R handgrips, 1–3 motors as required, 7‑pin motor link cables, P‑Tap power leads, rosette mounts, lens gear rings, marking discs, chargers, and case. Our knowledgeable crew pre-configures channels, calibrates motors, checks torque profiles, and matches run/stop cabling to the selected camera, ensuring a hassle-free start and consistent pulls across the day.
For teams that need a proven, high-torque, MDR‑less wireless follow focus with smart power, flexible control assignments, and reliable long-range performance, the Tilta Nucleus-M remains a practical, set-ready choice that scales from lean setups to full multi-op workflows.
Feature | Description | Benefit |
---|---|---|
3-Channel FIZ Control | Assign focus, iris, zoom to FIZ or split with handgrips. | Flexible single-op or multi-op workflow. |
1,000ft Wireless Range | Long-range link for steadicam, gimbal, and vehicle work. | Confident control when the camera goes mobile. |
2.5N·m Motor Torque | Brushless motors with integrated receivers/MDR. | Drives most cine lenses with authority. |
0.8 Mod Cine Gears | 35-tooth, 32-pitch gear with lens rings included. | Ready for cine lenses and adaptable to stills glass. |
7.2–24V Motor Power | P‑Tap into one motor; daisy-chain via 7‑pin cables. | Tidy rigs with fewer power runs. |
No External MDR | Receivers built into each motor. | Faster setup, reduced rig complexity. |
Auto/Manual Calibration | Works with lenses with/without hard stops. | Quick limits and reliable repeatability. |
Run/Stop Support | Trigger record via compatible R/S cables. | Smoother operation from FIZ/handles. |
18650 Power (FIZ/Grips) | Two cells per unit; compact charging solutions. | All‑day usability with easy hot-swaps. |
ARRI Rosette Mounts | Grip adapters for shoulder rigs and gimbals. | Ergonomic, secure operator control. |
Each motor includes its own receiver/driver, so no separate MDR box is needed—just power one motor, daisy-chain the rest, and pair to the FIZ/handles.
Motors deliver up to about 2.5N·m torque (at 14.8V), sufficient for most cine glass, with high/medium/low torque modes to match lens resistance.
Yes, focus/iris/zoom can be assigned to the FIZ hand unit or split between the left/right grips for multi-operator workflows.
Feed 7.2–24V into one motor (commonly via P‑Tap) and daisy-chain control/power to others with 7‑pin jumpers for a tidy, reliable setup.
With the correct R/S cable for the camera, record can be triggered from the FIZ unit and/or handgrips.
